Bringing back “HIP HIP HOORAY!”
That’s right. I’m on a mission. I’m bringing back the old, forgotten, but fabulous phrase. What more effective way to get people to cheer with you???
Then, you can partner it with the perfect clasped-hand shake over each shoulder.
Because you are a champion.
We stayed at a glorious cabin in Auburn, CA where the award-winning Chateau Garage is made… we got a special tasting of their 2011 Cabernet. Then, a trip down the river… I do, in fact, love it here.
On the river, one of our guides said, “My life is like some people’s vacation.”
Amen.
Villa Florentino- Coloma, CA
Jenn and I did a benefit concert for the American River Conservancy… It was on the lawn of a brand new Villa in the wine country of California.
Jenn Grinels is a star. Villa Montalvo (August 19, 2011)
Time and time again I shake myself when I watch Jenn perform. It’s hard to believe how good she really is… and I am so lucky to get to learn from her every day.
Surround yourself with people who inspire you.

So great to reconnect with one of my favorite cities- and some of my favorite people! Congratulations to Jill, Steve, Chris, and Chef Jeff on their new venue. I can’t wait to be back!

I flushed Jenn’s keys down the toilet. Seriously.
After our show last night, (which was great by the way, but immediately overshadowed in my mind by this debacle) I went to a restaurant to meet some friends who are also in San Diego right now. I stopped into the bathroom before meeting them in the dining room, and… flushed Jenn’s keys down the toilet. I didn’t even know it was possible, but yeppers, it is! 5 keys, a small tape measure, and the electronic entry all went completely down the drain. The car is still parked in the restaurant parking lot, and I’m about to put on my running shoes, run the 2 miles back to the car, call AAA and have another key made. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are officially back on the road. Let the high jinx ensue.
In March, I took a break from playing concerts to return to the theater. I started with a concert in Houston for the ‘Pink at the Brown’ Benefit. This lovely evening was a charity event raising money for a breast cancer organization. It was run by some of the most dynamic women I’ve ever met, and attended by none other than former Pres. Bush, Sr and his wife, Barbara.
From there, I traveled to the beautiful town of White River Junction, Vermont to play Eva Peron in Evita. I had to cancel a couple concerts to make this happen, but it was worth it! Evita was such a challenge and thrill! I can’t wait to play her again… Northern Stage is a great company, and it was fun to return… I had been there in November 2010 with Jenn at Tupelo Music Hall, which is down the street!
I then hopped down the Appalachian Trail to my home in the woods, Totem Pole Playhouse. I spent the summer in the most fabulous cabin with my good friend Domue. Huck and I had 10 weeks of plays, hiking, and playing guitar. I did three shows: Hank Williams- Lost Highway, Moonlight and Magnolias, and Suite Surrender. I also sang the National Anthem at the Hagerstown Suns game, and played a couple shows at a local restaurant, Bistro 71, to keep my chops up!
